Three Children In London Infected With E. Coli
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a warning to people in London, Ontario, not to eat a certain ground beef product, after three children in the area fell ill with E.coli poisoning.
According to the Middlesex-London Health Unit, though unrelated, three cases of the bacterial infection at the same time is unusual.
In two of the cases, it seems the children had consumed Koftas, a spiced ground beef dish from a Halal food store, while the third child’s source of infection is still unknown.
The public have been advised not to purchase any ground beef from the Westmount Halal Food Store, including ensuring all beef is properly cooked at appropriate temperatures.
E. coli O157: H7 infection symptoms include abdominal pain and mild to severe diarrhoea. In a small percentage of patients, E.coli can cause kidney, blood and neurological problems.
