Chef Jamie Oliver's Sauces Considered Saltier Than The Sea
Chef Jamie Oliver is in the news again, with five of his pasta sauces i.e. Spicy Olive, Garlic and Tomato, found to be 50% saltier than even his supermarket of choice of Sainsbury's Puttanesca, found to top a list of the saltiest of the salty.
Oliver's salt-laden pasta sauces the Mail says contain more salt than even 10-bags of crisps, unmatched even by Kellogg's Corn Flakes found to have more salt in a 30-gm bowl than a bag of Walkers ready salted crisps, last month.
Oliver's spokesperson, when the same story appeared in July last year said the sauces were 'designed to be eaten in the Italian way,' one jar meant to feed four to six people, cheerfully taglining the story: 'A little of Jamie's sauce goes a long way'.
However, Oliver's spokesman claimed today that the chef's team has been working on a low salt recipe since the spring, which will be available early December and will contain 0.8-gms of salt as opposed to the present 3-gm.
''I found it quite incredible Oliver's food is the highest in salt,' said Graham MacGregor, Chair, Consensus Action on Salt and Health responsible for conducting the study.
Atlantic seawater with 2.5-gms of salt per 100-gm. was outdone by a couple of Jamie's sauces which had a higher level of salt.
