Penis Spray Useful In Making Men Last Longer
New studies confirm premature ejaculation in men can be overcome with the help of an experimental penis spray, applied five minutes before sex.
According to Ira Sharlip, MD, Clinical Professor of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco, the spray dubbed PSD502 and containing anaesthetics like lidocaine and prilocaine, does not deaden feeling, but rapidly penetrates the skin due to an ingredient in the spray.
Sharlip talking to WebMD says: ‘It rarely causes a decrease in sensation in the penis because it is absorbed so quickly. In men using the product, the incidence of penile anesthesia is 1% or 2%.’
The spray is not only effective in men, it has also been found to be safe for men’s female sex partners, with only 0.5% of them reporting decreased feeling in the vagina, including burning sensation in about
5% of the female partners.
One of the three investigators of the PSD502 studies, Sharlip and her team mates are consultants to Sciele Pharma Inc. that acquired rights to PSD502 from U. K.-based Plethora Solutions Ltd.
According to the studies, PSD502 helped men delay ejaculation about five times longer. The study found those men who ejaculated on an average 36-seconds after attaining vaginal penetration, after one month of PSD502 treatment were able to delay ejaculation for over
3-minutes, confirming the findings of a previous study reported earlier this year.
Sharplip, it is not only young, inexperienced teens who have a problem with premature ejaculation, it also affects some 20% to 30% of men of all ages, making it difficult for them to father children.
There are treatments, such as, off-label use of SSRI anti-depressants, as delayed ejaculation is a common side-effect of these drugs. However, these drugs require to be taken on a daily basis or 3 to
6-hours before sexual activity, however, they can increase the risk of side effects, as sex is not always predictable.
Other treatments include topical preparations, such as, EMLA cream, which also contains lidocaine and prilocaine. However, EMLA has either to be used with a condom or washed off prior to sex.
Premature ejaculation, twice as common as erectile dysfunction affects about one-third of American men aged 18 to 59, with no prescription treatments approved for treating it in the United States.
PSD502, based on the studies of men in Canada, Poland and the United States, will become available in little over a year’s time.
