Poll Reveals British Ignorant About Sex
A poll conducted Friday poll reveals just how ignorant the British are when it comes to matters relating to sex.
The poll found, over 1 in 10 Britons are unaware that even standing up and having sex can make a woman pregnant.
The government commissioned survey says, nearly 1 in 5 i. e. 19% are unaware it is possible for a woman to become pregnant even while having her periods, or a man withdrawing before ejaculation was completely safe.
According to the survey, 11% believe sex standing up to be an effective contraceptive method, over a third or 37% have never discussed contraception with their partners.
Which lack of knowledge, Dr. Pam Spurr, sex and relationship expert says, is causing confusion, despite all our talk about sex and relationships.
Other poll findings of 2,000-people aged 16-50 include, 31% or one in three never discuss sexual health with their partners, while 17% are unaware infections like herpes and genital warts are antibiotic resistant.
Over 27% admitted to being far too embarrassed to ask questions they would really like to, 47% never discussed their sex lives with friends, with one in four saying they wished they could talk more openly about sex and relationships.
The survey commissioned by the Department of Health and the Department for Children, Schools and Families said, about 85% agreed that sex was no longer a taboo subject, however, 62% admitted to turning discussions on sex into a joke.
While, teenage pregnancy rates are declining, with births at their lowest level for over 15-years, a combination of misinformation, bad advice and poor quality conversations is hindering further progress.
The survey also found a lack of knowledge about sexual health was widespread, despite which, 77% said even though they were unsure of their facts, they would not refrain from giving advice to a friend on a sexual health dilemma.
