How PSTD Diagnosis Affects Mental And Physical Health
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) forcing combat veterans to prove their experience in conflict has led to emotional troubles, resulting in post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been mystifying.
However, major changes to the data claimants need to recall and provide, will allow the VA to approve tens of thousands more valid claims for care and overdue compensation.
Unfortunately, the problem is compounded due to VA’s severe shortage of doctorate-certified psychologists, leading to far too many non-federally recognized, lesser-paid social workers recruited to help veterans cope with PSTD. VA waiting rooms are already filled with veterans seeking assistance with their mental health problems. The possible quadrupling of future patients should prod the Congress into funding the recruitment of 10,000 psychologists with doctorates recognised by the government.
Once the Obama administration is able to bring our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, including their supporting personnel home, the nation will be shocked to see how much their waiting families, communities, and companies of those suffering from PSTD suffer, because of their problems.
As veterans return from fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, a strong link between PTSD and circulatory, musculoskeletal, digestive, and other diseases are bound to show up.
According to a study of 4,416 such veterans, those veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who have been diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) seem to suffer from higher than usual rates of several physical ailments,
The diagnosis of physical disorders came only three to seven months after these combat veterans received a PTSD diagnosis.
What strikes one particularly about these findings is that diseases considered to develop traditionally across one’s lifespan, such as. circulatory system and hypertensive condition, make their appearance shortly after military service ends.
However, researchers noted no increased risk of respiratory or endocrine, nutritional, or metabolic illnesses was observed.
