Translation Facilities in NHS
In a new astonishing revelation, it has been said that the NHS is spending a sum of $23 million on translators. This is for the people who come from different parts of the world, and aren't able to communicate properly with the staff of the hospital. It is essential because without proper conversation, the doctors wouldn't be able to find out what the problem of the patients really is.
It has been revealed that since the year 2007, there has been a 17% rise in the spending made towards interpreters. Experts are of the view that if these services are cut, it might be able to save a whole fortune for the NHS hospitals. They are further of the view that providing these services are doing nothing but creating language barriers, and might lead in segregation.
"Urgent action must be taken by trusts to stem the flow of translation costs, and our report sets out a number of recommendations that would do exactly that without altering the level of care given", said Julia Manning, of 2020Health, the think tank, which went about this research.
The experts are of the view that in place of giving translators to the patients, there should be services for helping the patients learn simple Basic English conversation. This might actually tend to help in saving the sums for the NHS while also bringing a whole world closer, in terms of language and understanding. But the question is, is there really time for making people learn English first, and then talk to the staff?
There is need for the NHS to find a suitable middle way, which will help people as well as the staff of the NHS in the long run and also save funds for them.
