Let Kids feed Themselves
With the pursuit of getting rid of the increased cases of obesity, researchers have been conducting large number of studies. A recent research has found that by feeding babies through fingers rather than with spoon, can prevent them from turning obese.
The British researchers are asking parents to allow their kids to feed themselves as the practice would help kids in regulating their intake. It has been found by the researchers that kids who feed themselves are more likely to eat high carbohydrate food.
While concluding the study, the researchers noted, “Our results suggest that infants weaned through the baby-led approach learn to regulate their food intake in a manner which leads to a lower BMI (body mass index) and a preference for healthy foods like carbohydrates”.
Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum said that kids are aware of their hunger and they know how much would be enough for them. Tam stated that when a baby is breastfed, then it is the intuition of the baby which guides him to have milk and also guides him to turn to solid food.
Sometimes, parents tend to over feed their kids without even knowing. While showing love to their kids, parents keep feeding their child which often leads to overeating. The habit thus formed or developed by the kid leads him to obesity.
Previous studies have linked obesity with life-threatening diseases like cancer. With the growing cases of obesity in America, it has become necessary for the government to step in and take necessary steps in preventing kids from turning obese. Parents are also required to guide their kids towards healthy eating habits.
