US Persuade Allies to Reduce Iranian Crude Oil Dependence
It has been confirmed that US is arranging meetings with all its allies to persuade them to buy minimum crude oil from Iran. In the list of allies, India is also involved, said the State Department Spokesperson, Victoria Nuland.
The thing to ponder over is that US knows that India has good relations with Tehran and then also it is asking it to reduce its dependence over Iranian oil. Nuland told that they have been in talks with India since the time the US officials visited New Delhi. The talks were continued when the Indian Foreign Secretary, Ranjan Mathai came to US.
All they have been asking every country is that they should not remain dependent on Iranian crude oil. Nuland affirmed, "What we are saying to all of our allies and partners around the world is that we are encouraging everybody to buy less Iranian crude, as little as possible, to find alternatives sources of supply, in the context of the economic squeeze”.
He further affirmed that India is not the only Asian country they have been approaching, as there are other countries as well in Asia and Europe which have been approached. Nuland said that they are not going to leave Iran matter so easily and would make sure that they make each and every effort to make Iran to go through the security criteria for their nuclear weapon program.
The US is not an enemy of Iran but they just want that Iran should prove that its nuclear weapon program would not be used against them. Nuland said that they would not be checking whether or not its allies have been supporting them. They have said and discussed situation with their allies and now it depends on them which path they want to choose.
