Isle of Man Care Home Closure Plan Faces Criticism
Isle of Man’s government has recently announced about its new plan of closure of a residential care home for the elderly but it seems that the region’s government could face criticism as not all are satisfied with this new decision.
Yes, the new decision of the Isle of Man’s government is definitely not at all convincing for many, following which the closure plan is witnessing a union protest from all the members, who would be affected by the closure of Glenside care home, including all the 59 elderly residents of the home and 64 staff members that were serving at the facility.
Moreover, unite members also have plans to protest outside the House of Keys on 6 March against the new decision of the government.
According to the decision came from the social care department, they will be closing the facility by 2014. One of the spokesmen has revealed in his statement that the government’s decision of closing the Glenside has been taken with an aim to deliver the best standard of care to the people.
On the other hand, Regional Industrial Organizer for Unite, Mr. Steve Salter said in his statement that the government’s decision is all about to save money and not about any closure.
"Whatever is put in place by the government will lead to diminishing standards in elderly care", he said. “In the long term we think it will also lead to a number of individuals having to give up their jobs to look after vulnerable members of the family”, he added.
Some more statements came from a social care spokesman also, who said that the decision suggests moving ahead of the facility with their best services and utmost care for the people and their families.
