GPs Fight Against Bowel Cancer
Cancer has many deadly forms and one in the list is bowel cancer, which is slowing affecting a bigger number of people every year.
According to the figures, averagely bowel cancer is affecting approx 190 people yearly and thus to curb this increasing number of the affected people from the bowel cancer, doctors in Rotherham have also started lending their best support to the national bowel cancer awareness campaign that is running in the regions to aware people of this form of cancer and help them fight it best.
Statistics have confirmed that in the year 2008, approx 68 people died from bowel cancer in Rotherham. And if calculated nationally, then bowel cancer is becoming the cause of 13,000+ deaths in a year i. e. UK’s second biggest cancer killer.
Regarding the situation, Dr. Richard Cullen, Cancer Lead at NHS Rotherham, said that “Figures show that bowel cancer claims many lives locally every year which is why it’s so important people aren’t afraid to discuss common symptoms which relate to poo”.
Dr. Cullen has also suggested people, who note blood in their poo or looser poo for more than three weeks, to immediately see their doctor and discuss the issue as early treatment can save many lives. Bowel cancer is definitely a curable disease, thus it is very important that it is diagnosed early.
Discussing symptoms and problems like bowel cancer seems embarrassing to many thus the officials have given the word 'poo' to wave off all the embarrassment and encourage people to talk about this embarrassing business.
Campaign against bowel cancer will run till the end of March on TV, radio, online and in newspapers, to help and serve maximum number of people.
