Life Imprisonment for Fraud Doctor
It has been recently revealed in a report that a doctor from Chicago is held for having given out painkillers without authority. This has led to the death of four people from Ohio. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime. The name of the man is Paul H. Volkman, who had been prescribing millions of painkiller medicines to people, and was convicted last year in May.
He is a University of Chicago Medical School Graduate and practitioner from Chicago. It was revealed that he had opened a dispensary of his own, where he used to sell medicines for cash. It was also said that this led to him distributing many different types of addictive medicines and drugs, without prescription or any medical reasons for the same.
"Volkman did not act as a doctor seeking to treat his patients. He acted as a drug dealer seeking to profit from his patients, regardless of the consequences”, revealed the prosecutor. He sold many dangerous drugs in combinations and quantities that are harmful and this is the reason for the death of four people. It was further added that he used to sell medicines only on cash basis, and further used to make the patients sign a document which read that they weren’t members of the law enforcement department.
It is essential that a proper check is kept on the functioning of doctors in the vicinity. This is because many people might seem to go astray and forget their vows of serving the patients and taking care of their health when it comes to huge money luring. The loopholes in regulatory standards need to be done away with completely, so that the health and life of patients isn’t put under jeopardy because of money hungry doctors.
