Fernando Alonso clocked the fastest time Friday in free practice Friday for this weekend's Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix.
The Renault driver registered a time of 1 minute 12.296 seconds in his Renault for the 4.309-kilometres lap during the second session at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo.
Ferrari's Felipe Massa was quickest in the morning session ahead of world championship rival Lewis Hamilton of McLaren-Mercedes but had to be satisfied with second fastest behind Alonso in the afternoon.
Massa clocked 1:12.305 minutes in the first session and 1:12.353 in the afternoon.
The Briton Hamilton was 0.190 seconds slower than Massa in the first session but was further off the pace in his second stint, 0.531 seconds slower than Alonso.
Hamilton takes a seven-point lead over Massa into the season- ending race as he bids to become the youngest world champion in F1 history at the age of 23. He requires fifth place to secure the title if Massa wins the race.
Last year Hamilton also led by seven points but Kimi Raikkonen stole the title by winning in Brazil.
Qualifying for the Brazilian GP takes place Saturday with the race on Sunday.
