The biggest European automobile company Volkswagen AG announced today that its division for luxury and sports cars, Audi AG will most likely meet its target to sell 1 million vehicles this year, reported Associated Press.

In May sales of Audi rose by 0.8 to 88 200 cars, showed details of VW.

For the first five months of the year 426 000 vehicles of the Audi brand have been sold, which is by 1.5 % more, due mainly to the growth in the Asian-Pacific region and the countries of Eastern Europe.

Sales in the Asia-Pacific region have grown by over 22 percent to 12 600 vehicles compared to 10 312 cars sold in the same month last year. Sales in China, the largest foreign market for the Audi brand have grown by 26 percent in May.

During the first five months sales in the region have grown by more than 20 percent to around 65 000 vehicles compared to 53 879 pieces for the same period in 2007.

In May sales in Eastern increased by 9 percent to 3,550 cars. For the period January - May the company sold more than 18 300 vehicles in the region, which is a growth by 13.5 percent on an annual basis.
