Kosovo opposition politician attacked ahead of local polls
A Kosovo Albanian politician campaigning for Sunday's local elections was shot at Thursday night, but escaped unhurt, a police spokesman said. Hysni Ahmeti, an opposition candidate for the post of mayor in the ethnic hotspot town of Mitrovica, was on a way to a campaign event when his car was sprayed with bullets, police spokesman Besim Hoti said.
The car sported several bullet holes after the attack, but Ahmeti, an official in former premier Ramush Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo party was not hurt.
Ex-Kosovo Envoy Ahtisaari Wins Nobel Prize
The former United Nations envoy for Kosovo’s final status, Martti Ahtisaari, has won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has announced.
“Ahtisaari is an outstanding international mediator,” a committee spokesman said in announcing his win.
Tadic: We do not accept Kosovo's independence under any form
"In the UN Security Council Serb position will be very clear - we do not accept Kosovo's independence under any form".
Serbian President Boris Tadic said this in an interview for the Serbian agency Fonet.
Serbian head of state believes that only the UN Security Council has the power to change the mission of the UN Civil Administration in Kosovo UNMIK.
Serbs constitute alternative government in Kosovo
As it was expected Serbia reacted strongly to the Constitution of Kosovo and did not recognize its promulgation.
Belgrade announced that the Serbs in northern Kosovo would establish their own government, along with that of Kosovo.

Russia proposes that UN chief administrator in Kosovo is dismissed.
The proposal is in connection with the plan of Joachim Ruecker to
terminate the work of UNMIK in Kosovo, said the Russian Foreign
Minister.
Joachim Ruecker is German diplomat who has headed the mission since September 2006.
