The budget will affect the Bulgarians in a way that 2010 years will be worse than 2009.

This was announced by the former energy minister Petar Dimitrov on Radio Focus. He explained that in a state of crisis the state should support businesses but in the new budget the resources destined to combat the crisis have been greatly reduced or even cut off. Dimitrov added that having been attracting investors, the country has committed to build infrastructure, which is an incentive measure, but the budget allocation for infrastructure has been reduced three times.

Bulgaria's new conservative government may broaden its role in Afghanistan to include participation in the European Union's police training mission, Defence Minister Nikolay Mladenov said Monday. Speaking at a security conference in Sofia, Mladenov said although Bulgaria's defence budget for 2010 has been decreased to 1.44 per cent of gross domestic product, the country would continue to finance its foreign missions.

B-2010 priorities are social sector, education, health, environment, road infrastructure, internal order and security.

Projected revenues under the consolidated fiscal program for 2010 amount to 26.4 billion, which is 41.6 percent of the GDP, including tax, and non-tax benefits. Bulgaria plans to replace the lev with the Europe's single currency, the euro, in 2012 or 2013, Finance Minister Simeon Djankov told daily 24 Chasa Monday.

"We have a chance in the last year of the mandate to introduce the euro," Djankov said.

The Bulgarian parliament on Monday approved a minority government led by former Sofia mayor Boyko Borisov, three weeks after the parliamentary elections took place.

The parliament approved the centre-right government with 162 votes for and 78 against.
