Natural Reserve Srebarna is located in the northeastern part of Bulgaria, 20 kilometers away from Silistra. The lake is extremely dependent on the lifeblood connection with the waters of the Danube River. The route of migratory birds passes through it. In 1948 it was declared new reserve. Hidden in reeds and other waterfowl plants, many birds are nesting here - loons, ibises, mute swans, Dalmatian pelicans and cormorants.
On the territory of the reserve is located a laboratory and educational center, where you can see the rich biodiversity of the reserve - birds, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. There is an opportunity to observe the birds in their natural environment.
This splendid reserve is under UNESCO protection.
In the museum of natural science in the village of Srebarna can be seen the special diploma that Srebarna is a biosphere reserve under UNESCO criteria. It is included in the list of the sites of world cultural natural heritage.
The efforts made to protect this natural richness of the country developed tended to the success of ecotourism here. Felix Philipp Kanitz called it "El Dorado for the wading birds" and it is included in the routes of the tour operator groups that promote ecotourism in this region of the country.
