Lovech is located on the border between Danube river and the vast plain north of Stara Planina. It is situated on both banks of the River Osam.
Its old part was established in 4-3 BC.
The fortress "Hissar", located on the hill with the same name, is where in 1187 was signed the peace treaty with Byzantium, which put the start of the second Bulgarian state.
The specially fitted night lighting on the partially restored fortress complements the effect and contributes to the impact of this old historic landmark on visitors.
In architectural and historical reserve "Varosha" are restored more than 160 houses, which are typical examples of Revival architecture. It is one of the priceless treasures of the city, preserved for generations.
The covered bridge, built by Master Kolyo Ficheto in 1874 connected the new part of Lovech with the district "Varosha". What is typical for this bridge is that it is built entirely of wood, without any metal part. Inside the bridge were situated 64 small shops. But, unfortunately this unique bridge incinerate almost to the ground in 1925. In 1931 at the same site was erected a new iron bridge covered by 40 small shops.
And now this bridge continues to be an attraction for the guests of Lovech, who enjoy the opportunity to buy souvenirs made by local craftsmen, which are sold in the shops of the covered bridge.
If you visit Lovech in May, you will understand why it is called "The city of lilacs". The park "Stratesh" in May is enveloped by lilac blossom and aroma. During this time are held "The lilac music days".
18 km away from Lovech is found Devetashka Cave, which is a monument of culture and natural landmark. The cave was habitable from the late Paleolithic. From the findings found in excavations was concluded about the high material and spiritual culture of its inhabitants.
