Cuban scientists discovered vaccine against lung cancer, which in their words was the first in the world and could extend life of patients by up to five months.
Gisela Gonzalez of the Immunology Center in Havana, where the discovery was made, said that the work on Cimavax EGF vaccine started in 1992 and the first clinical test was made in 1995. This is the first vaccine in the world, designed to combat pulmonary cancer, said Gonzalez.
The director for clinical research of the scientists team Tania Crombet said that the vaccine is an addition to conventional methods such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy and allows patients to live 4-5 months more. Also, it eases the pain and improves patients' breathing.
Medicine can be found in Cuba, it will be put into widespread use in Latin America, starting from Peru, Gonzales added.
