FAA Watching After American Airlines' Three Mishaps
American Airlines' three mishaps, that is jetliners' wingtips touching the ground twice during landings at Charlotte, N.C. and Austin, Texas, including a plane over-shooting the runway in Jamaica during heavy rain 22nd Dcember, has led the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to increase supervision and review the mishaps to figure out whether a larger issue is to be blamed.
If necessary, the FAA along with American will work on taking on corrective action.
600 Million Pounds Added To UK's Finance by BAE
The warship industry continues to thrive in UK as reports have come through that the warship division of BAE Systems Surface Ships, based in Glasgow, has funded more than 600 Million Pounds to the UK government. BAE has more than 8000 employees in total and it is a very interesting fact that 3400 employees are directly working at the yards in Govan, its Clyde base.
Ford Becomes First Ever Manufacturer to Offer Airbags for Backseat Passengers
Taking safety measures a step further, Ford has announced that its eagerly awaited Ford Explorer, due for release in about a year, will be equipped with seatbelt airbags for backseat passengers as well. With this move, the company has become the first manufacturer to offer this facility.
Providing backseat passengers with an additional safety measure, the airbags will be sewn into the shoulder portion of the seat belts fitted in the rear. These will deploy outward and sidewise, less slowly and with decreased force as compared to the front-seat airbags.
Ryanair Threatens to Stop Expansion
Ryanair, the much popular Irish budget airline, has said that if it does not get a better deal on the an upcoming aircraft from Boeing, it would be forced to stop its rapid expansion. The company, which is currently in talks with Boeing about buying 200 airplanes, says that prices have to be cut down, if not then the carrier will have to return cash to shareholders instead of investing it into buying aircrafts.
Indian private airlines call off strike
India's private airlines called off their plans to suspend domestic flights on August 18 after the government took a tough stand and rejected their demand for a financial bail
-out, news reports said Monday.
The Federation of Indian Airlines - made up of 10 carriers, including Kingfisher and Jet Airways - announced its decision Sunday evening.
Skies remain red for Continental Airlines
US air carrier Continental Airlines reported Tuesday that it continued to operate in the red in the second quarter, with the poor economy and swine flu fears hitting passenger numbers.
The Houston, Texas-based airline said it lost 213 million dollars in the quarter, compared with red-ink of 5 million dollars a year earlier.
