EU to cover 70% of the expenses on solar energy projects in Bulgaria
By the end of 2020, 16% of the energy used in Bulgaria is supposed to be from renewable sources according to the requirements of European Union. The reason is the increasing global warming and pollution, which determines the need of new ecological technologies to provide for the increased energy consumption. This exact need opens space for new business, that is solar installations.
The geographic location of Bulgaria is very beneficial since the country has potential of 1,300 kWh/sq. m annual sunshine, which is by 30% more compared to Germany, for example.
The difficulties in this business are the long time needed for obtaining licenses and permits to start such projects which is between 6 and 12 months, compared to only 2 weeks in Spain. The price paid for the solar energy is also low compared to the high investment needed for such venture, businessmen said.
Installation of photovoltaic systems can be provided by EU's Program for development of rural regions. Banks in Bulgaria also credit such projects with about 10 years refunding terms, which is usually not enough to have return on the investment.
Household consumers will have the greatest difficulties to install solar panels, Velizar Kiryakov, President of the Association of Ecological Energy Producers (AEEP), said. The administrative procedures for licencing takes about one to one and a half year and there are some omissions in Bulgarian legislation system concerning whether investors should pay accession tax or not.
