A 59-year-old French woman has given birth to triplets in a Paris hospital, the daily Le Parisien reported Monday on its web site.
The woman, who was identified only as being of Vietnamese origin, and the three babies - two boys and one girl - were all reported to be doing well.
The three infants were delivered by Caesarian section early Sunday, three weeks ahead of term.
The two boys weighed 2.32 and 2.09 kilos at birth, while the girl weighed in at 2.42 kilos.
According to the report, the mother received oocytes, or immature egg cells, from a private clinic in Vietnam, and had the embryo implanted afterwards.
The case was the first of its kind in France, where this procedure is limited to women 43 years of age and younger, because giving birth after the age of 45 is considered risky for both mother and child.
