Fresh snowfalls in Britain cause travel disruption
More heavy snowfalls in Britain Thursday caused severe travel disruption and saw many schools closed as councils struggled with dwindling salt supplies to grit pavements and roads.
Snowfalls up up to 20 centimetres were recorded in parts of the English Midlands and in Wales, where up to 200 schools were closed.
A number of regional airports were shut as runways were covered in snow and trains were cancelled, authorities said.
In some areas, councils were under strain to keep up grit supplies in view of the unusual spell of cold weather.
The south-east of Britain, including London, which were paralyzed by snow earlier this week, were not affected by the fresh snowfalls.
