Georgia offers zones of influence in Abkhazia
Georgia offered Russia a package of measures to regulate Georgian - Abkhazian conflict.
In fact, it offered separation of Abkhazia to areas of influence at a formal restoration of Georgian sovereignty over the unacknowledged Republic.
The proposed zone of influence of Russia is significantly larger than that of Georgia, RIA Novosti wrote.
New ideas of Tbilisi were presented at a meeting between deputy foreign ministers of both countries Grigol Vashadze and Grigory Karasin who are responsible for the relations between the two countries in the Organization of Independent States.
Now the border between Abkhazia and Georgia pass along Inguri River, where Russian peacekeeping forces are settled, too.
It was also proposed the Russian peacekeepers to be replaced by Georgian-Abkhazian police contingent.
According to the publication the demarcation line was aimed to pass along Kodori River. In the northern parts behind it the Georgian authorities will not insist on returning refugees as far as this was strongly opposed by Sukhumi.
Accordingly, Georgia will be able to agree with the presence of Russian peacekeepers in that part of the country as well as with the aggregating of Russian investment in the region.
Tbilisi also wants to repeal the special decree of Russian President for the establishment of a special relationship between Russia and Abkhazia. This decree was issued by the former President Vladimir Putin.
The political part of the proposals provide for the legal establishment for Abkhazia of a status of broad autonomy in the structure of Georgia.
