Golden Nadal on top of the world
Rafael Nadal went to the top of the men's world tennis rankings Monday, a day after winning a gold medal at the Olympics.
The Spanish player replaces Roger Federer of Switzerland who had topped the ATP rankings for 239 consecutive weeks.
Nadal had been slated to take over from Federer following results at the July 25-August 3 Cincinnati Masters.
The change at the top comes after Nadal won the men's singles final for gold at the Beijing Games following a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 defeat of Chilean Fernando Gonzalez.
