Intel has announced plans to start selling solid state drives (SSD) for laptops and desktop computers.
Plans are afoot to have 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch versions of the SSDs available to computer manufacturers by late September, according to the company's German offices. Drives with the X18-M and X25-M Mainstream SATA SSD labels will offer between 80 and 160 gigabytes of storage.
Unlike standard hard drives, SSDs have no moving parts, which makes them more shock resistant.
