Struggling Miroslav Klose will continue to lead the attack and captain Germany in Wednesday's World Cup qualifying match against Finland, coach Joachim Loew said in Helsinki Tuesday.
"We know he's not in form at the moment but we have great confidence in Miro and are standing behind him," Loew said.
Germany go into the Group 4 match on the back of a 6-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein on Saturday, and Loew indicated he would keep an unchanged side.
Although 30-year-old Klose looks out of sorts and was not on the scoresheet Saturday, he will partner Bayern Munich team-mate Lukas Podolski, who bagged two goals in Vaduz.
Klose, captain in the absence of injured Michael Ballack, has scored only twice - once from the penalty spot - for Bayern this year.
He has not found the net for German for 198 minutes, but his international record over the year is nevertheless a good one, with five goals in eight games.
"I can see a physical improvement in him. He is scoring goals in training and just needs a game where everything goes for him," Loew said.
The coach warned that Wednesday's match would be tough against opponents who have players in several top European leagues.
Germany's last two matches against Finland were World Cup qualifiers in 2001 which both ended in draws.
"They are better than six or seven years ago and very awkward to play against. They are well organised with a fighting spirit and good individual players. We want to get forward and upset their game plan," Loew said.
Loew had special praise for left-back Philipp Lahm who is set to earn his 50th cap, describing the 24-year-old Bayern Munich defender as "world class."
"I don't think I've ever seen a player with such a high level of consistency as Philipp Lahm," Loew said.
His half-ton of caps has come despite missing 2005 with a foot stress fracture and cruciate ligament injury.
Loew said Lahm, who earned his first cap in February 2004, had been voted best German player at the 2004 European Championships and had outstanding 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008 tournaments.
"He always plays at this level. You can never say Philipp Lahm is off form. He has been playing at an incredibly high level for five or six years," he said.
Meanwhile former playing great Franz Beckenbauer has called for a "peace summit" to end a dispute between Ballack and team manager Oliver Bierhoff.
Writing for Bild newspaper Tuesday, Beckenbauer said it would be "fatal" if the dispute were allowed to simmer.
He said he would like the two to come together for a meeting with Loew, German Football Federation president Theo Zwanziger and its general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach.
Loew said Tuesday the reported dispute between the two was not an issue in the team camp and that success against Finland stood "above everything else."
