Comic-Like Characters To Be Used To Teach Safe Sex To Teens
The public health unit in London, Ontario has come up with a brilliant idea for teaching safe sex to teenagers, using comic book-themed superheroes and a villain named the evil ‘Sperminator’.
They also have launched a new game called ‘Adventures in Sex City’ on their website this week, with teenagers learning about sex through the eyes of a superhero. Visitors play by choosing one of the characters, such as, Willy the Kid, Wonder Vag, Captain Condom or Power Pap.
NYU Adopts New Zealand’s Cancer Technology
According to a deal signed by one of America’s leading universities i.e. New York University (NYU), American researchers will be utilizing New Zealand company MoleMap’s technology for advancing skin cancer research and developing new ways for earlier melanoma detection.
The $500,000 a year deal will allow residents and researchers from Charles C. Harris Skin and Cancer Unit, a teaching hospital at NYU’s Langone Medical Centre to have access for examining an image database of over one million skin lesions and 1000 melanoma case studies of New Zealand and Australian patients.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched a new campaign for raising awareness of atrial fibrillation.
People everywhere are being urged to get their pulse checked for atrial fibrillation, a condition responsible for causing around 16,000 strokes each year. The condition affects around 800,000-people in the UK and is characterised by an abnormal heart rhythm.
"Tough Love" Principle Works Best for Children - Study
According to a recent study, children whose parents bring them up using the "tough love" principle are likely to be more successful in life. The study by think-tank Demos has confirmed that a good balance of love and discipline helps raise children who display improved social skills as compared to those children who have undergone laissez-faire, authoritarian or disengaged upbringings.
Report author Jen Lexmond said, "It is confidence, warmth and consistent discipline that matter most".

Twice Daily Dosing Of Vertex Hep C Drug Works Well
A small study has found Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.’s Telaprevir, a hepatitis C drug to be equally effective in eliminating the virus in 80% of the patients taken twice daily, compared to three times a day.
Previous Phase II studies of this promising new experimental drug tested dosages given thrice a day 8-hours apart. The current study conducted to prove Telaprevir administered twice a day at 12-hour intervals, proved to be more convenient for patients.

Religion and school are two subjects that don't sit comfortably side by side in Berlin.
