The rate of unemployment in Greece has increased to 8.3 for the first quarter of 2008 compared to the last quarter of the last year, according to data of the National Statistical Service of Greece (NSSG).
For the first quarter of the last year officially registered unemployment was 9.1 percent. The Statistical Office also notes that in March this year, unemployment reached 9 percent, and in February it was lower by 1 percent.
According to NSSG officially 406 547 people in the country are unemployed and the number of employed is 4.51 million people.
The Office also notes that unemployment is more widespread among women than among men.
During the first quarter of the year, unemployed were 12.3 percent of women, while the percentage of unemployed men was 5.5%. Unemployment has increased significantly in the age group 15 to 29 years - 17.3 percent.
In the age group 15 to 24 years it rose to 27.1 percent, in the group of 25 to 34 years - up to 11.9 percent.
According to data of NSSG the long-term unemployed, that is those who are without work more than 12 months, constitute 47.6% of the total percentage of unemployed.
