The Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria Anthony Hasiotis said at a conference that members of the Chamber wanted to work in an environment of transparency with equal opportunities for everyone and where the same rules applied to everyone, with a strong legal, judicial and control framework, which among other things supported business initiatives, BTA reported.
"We expect predictable environment that can exist only supported by a strong legal framework", said Hasiotis, who spoke at the opening of the conference "Economic Partnership EU - USA".
U.S. companies invested 120 billion dollars in EU member states in 2006. Partnership is essential for both countries, said Anthony Hasiotis. We should help Bulgaria to become more included in these relations; efforts will be needed to attract American and European investors in Bulgaria and to absorb EU structural funds, he noted.
The President of the German-Bulgarian Industrial Chamber of Commerce-Rolman Bertram noted that Bulgaria had many harmonized with EU laws, but they were not executed in practice - an aspect, which had to be counteracted. The growing bureaucracy had to be counteracted, too, not only in Bulgaria but also throughout the EU to assist businesses, said Rolman.
Ambassador of Germany Michael Gayer focused on public procurement in Bulgaria, and Deputy U.S. Ambassador Alexander Karayanis also noted that U.S. and Bulgarian businessmen wanted transparent and predictable environment, to showcase investments and to have opportunities to discover new jobs.
