Wave of violence erupts in northern Lebanon
Beirut - Clashes erupted Wednesday evening in the northern port city of Tripoli between followers of Lebanon's parliamentary majority and others loyal to the Hezbollah-led opposition, leaving eight people wounded, Lebanese police said.
The violence started when a rocket-propelled grenade hit Al Ashkar cafe in the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood, followed by a hand grenade that was tossed near Al Nassri mosque in Tripoli's Bab al- Tabaneh, the police said.
Eight people were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital in the Jabal Mohsen area, the police added.
Militants fire three missiles into northern Israel
Three missiles were fired Friday into Northern Israel from southern Lebanon, without causing casualties, Lebanese security sources said.
The missiles were fired from Qlaileh near the southern port city of Tyre, the sources said.
According to Hezbollah television channel Al Manar, Israel fired one rocket in retaliation, targeting the area where the original fire came from.
Egyptian court confirms death sentence for tycoon
A court in Egypt on Thursday confirmed the death sentence for property tycoon Hisham Talaat Mustafa for the murder of Lebanese pop singer Suzanne Tamim.
The court had earlier found that Mustafa had paid Mohsen al- Sukkari, a former Egyptian security officer, to murder the singer in her apartment in Dubai last July.
Jordanian firm arranged airlift of Lebanese voters to Beirut: paper
A Jordanian company affiliated with leaders of the Lebanese al-Mustaqbal group arranged an airlift of Lebanese voters from Amman to Beirut to take part in the Lebanese general elections which were conducted on Sunday, the daily Alarab Alyawm reported Wednesday.
Tensions rise in Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon
Tensions rose Tuesday in Palestinian refugee camps in southern Lebanon after a series of bomb explosions in the past few days, which left no casualties but caused fear among the camps' residents.
At dawn Tuesday a bomb exploded near the house of Fatah member Monther Bhaiji, in the Ain el-Hilweh camp, east of the southern port of Sidon, but no casualties were reported.
Earlier, a stun grenade was thrown by unidentified people inside the Rashidiyeh refugee camp on the outskirts of the port city of Tyre. There were no injuries.
Scantily clad models promote Lebanon's ski season
Faraya, Lebanon - Models in thongs and lacy bras graced the catwalk over the weekend at the foot of snow-covered slopes in Lebanon to promote the country's much-delayed ski season.
Despite chilly weather, the sunny terrace of the five-star Intercontinental Mzaar Hotel was packed with a curious audience, mostly men, waiting to watch models displaying the latest swimwear, thongs and nightgowns on the slopes of Faraya, north-east of Beirut.
Jumblatt calls for calm after knife slaying of follower
The anti-Syrian Druze leader and Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) chief Walid Jumblat Monday called for calm at the funeral of one of his followers, who was stabbed to death by men believed to be from the opposition-led Hezbollah.
"We should be above all the wounds and exert restraint," Jumblatt told mourners during the funeral of Lutfi Zeineddine in Shabaniyeh, 40 kilometres east of Beirut.
Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the attack.
