Tokyo stocks lose 2 per cent over swine flu fears
Tokyo stocks lost more than 2 per cent to close Tuesday trading on fears of swine flu and concerns over the US economy. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average plunged 232.57 points, or 2.67 per cent, to close at 8,493.77.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 21.11 points, or 2.53 per cent, at 811.99.
The market entered positive territory at the end of morning trading on pharmaceutical shares.
Tokyo stocks up on optimism on US financial sector, weaker yen
Tokyo stocks ended morning trading higher Friday on renewed optimism over the US financial sector and the US dollar's advance against the yen.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 194.29 points, or 2.22 per cent, to 8,949.55.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 15.04 points, or 1.81 per cent, to 847.08.
Tokyo stocks fall on worries about USfinancial sector
Tokyo's markets lost ground Tuesday as investor concerns grew about the US financial sector with bank results to be released this week. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 113.35 points, or 1.27 per cent, to 8,811.08.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 10.29 points, or 1.21 per cent, at 838.68.

Nissan testing fuel cell SUV
Nissan has started extensive testing of a fuel-cell prototype SUV based on the Nissan X-Trail that it hopes to have ready for serial production in 2015, reports said.
Compared to a previous model, the latest X-Trail FCV generation power output has been boosted from 90 to 130 kW. At the same time, the fuel cell stack has been reduced in size from 90 to 68 litres, giving the engineers more flexibility in the packaging, the German auto-motor-sport magazine reported.
Toyota develops rear seat airbag
Toyota has developed the first centrally positioned rear seat airbag to offer passengers improved protection in the event of an accident, the company announced recently.
In a side-on collision, the airbag is activated from a fixed rear-seat console, preventing injury to passengers who would normally collide with each other.
Toyota did not say in which model the system would be installed, saying only that it will be available "in the near future."
Tokyo stocks rise on hopes of global economic recovery
The Tokyo market ended Monday trading at the highest level in a month after the Group of 20 finance ministers and central bankers met over the weekend.
Traders bought a wide range of issues after the financial leaders of the world's largest economies vowed to combat the global recession and revive the international economy.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average climbed 134.87 points, or 1.78 per cent, to close at 7,704.15.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 17.39 points, or 2.4 per cent, to 741.69.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average climbed 184.83 points, or 2.44 per cent, to 7,754.11.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 21.48 points, or 2.97 per cent, at 745.78.
